Saugerties police make arrests for stalking, driving while intoxicated

Saugerties police announced two recent arrests — one for stalking and the other for driving while intoxicated.

On the night of March 16, 2025, around 10:34pm, authorities from the Saugerties Police Department took 49-year-old Joseph R. Montano of Livermore, California into custody following a probe into a report concerning a suspicious vehicle. The investigation led to Montano being formally charged with a misdemeanor for Fourth Degree Stalking. He was subsequently processed at the Saugerties Police Department before appearing for arraignment at the Central Arraignment Part Court in Kingston.

On March 13, 2025, at approximately 10:45pm, the Saugerties Police Department arrested 46-year-old James R. Hankins of Saugerties, New York, following a traffic stop. The subsequent investigation resulted in Hankins being charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, along with violations for Insufficient Tail Lamps and operating an Uninspected Motor Vehicle. He was processed at the Saugerties Police Department and later released on Uniform Traffic Tickets, with a court appearance scheduled at the Village of Saugerties Justice Court at a future date.
