Shrestha declares victory

10:45pm

With 100% of precincts reporting, Shrestha has won the 103rd Assembly race handily, beating her opponent 8,928 votes to 4,549. She celebrated with supporters at Kingston Standard Tuesday night.

Assuming she survives a November challenge from Ulster County Conservative Party chair Jack Hayes, Shrestha will serve a second term in the state’s lower house.

The McKnight faction of the Hurley Democrats had a good primary night, with incomplete results indicating Lynne Bailey defeating Tracy Kellogg for town clerk, and Debbie Dougherty and Joe Letendre winning the nominations for two town council seats. It also easily retained control of the town Democratic Committee.

In the closely watched and fiercely contested congressional race in Westchester and Bronx counties, George Larimer unseated incumbent Jamaal Bowman by a comfortable margin.

At the Kingston Standard, headquarters for Shrestha’s primary night operation, the mood is easy and loose, the faithful in the red and yellow, calmly optimistic.

Numbers from Dutchess have been released extending the lead. It seems almost certain.

Shrestha is riding the wave easy with a near 2-to-1 advantage over Madden in early and absentee voting.

Representatives of the democratic establishment are far and few in between at what is shaping up to be the celebration

County executive Metzger, Ulster County Democratic County Committee chair Kelleigh McKenzie are here… and a sea of the progressives. Roughly 70 people total are in attendance.

At 10pm, 113 out of 119 election districts in the 103rd reporting, Sarahana at 63.83% to Madden’s 35.96%

The lead appears to be insurmountable and supporters in attendance at Kingston Standard were eagerly awaiting the final vote tally.

Atmosphere for Shrestha campaign is electric

9:25pm

Shrestha is leading Madden nearly 2:1 as her campaign awaits results from election day (absentee ballots and early votes have been tallied already).

Unofficial results are coming in

9:10pm

Unofficial election results have started to come in for the June 2024 primary.

Shrestha currently holds a commanding lead over Madden in the 103rd Assembly race, with 2693 votes to 1517 votes in Ulster County, including 100% of early votes and absentee ballots counted. Her supporters were already beginning to celebrate while gathered at Kingston Standard. Election day votes have not yet been tallied on the Ulster County Board of Elections result chart.

With absentee and early votes collected in the Hurley races:

• The Hurley Councilperson race saw Debbie Dougherty with 45.63% of the vote, trailed by Joseph D. Letendre at 30% and Tim Kelly at 24.32%

• Tracy Kellogg and Lynne Bailey were neck and neck for Town Clerk/Tax Collector, within 2 votes of each other.

Election results awaited

8:55pm

Sarahana Shrestha and Gabi Madden have had their final debate in the closely watched 103rd Assembly District seat in Ulster County and northern Dutchess. Results in the Hurley race were also eagerly anticipated.

It was reported that more than 8% of registered voters cast early ballots.

The Ulster County Board of Elections was expected to post unofficial election results at approximately 9pm on Tuesday night.
