Hurley’s town board appointed retiring Town of Ulster supervisor James Quigley to help sort out the town financial records. Quigley will assist budget officer John Perry and senior accounting clerk Wendy Trojak in updating the records. He will be paid $35 per hour.
Quigley, who will be retiring as Ulster supervisor in August, is a certified public accountant recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association as an expert in municipal accounting. He has 14 years experience keeping Ulster’s finances in order.
“My work product can be found on the Town of Ulster website. I have been responsible personally for preparing all the reports that appear there, including the year-end reports, the monthly reports, the special reports, as well as running the town,” Quigley said. “It is my hope to bring Hurley up to the standards that I have imposed in the Town of Ulster over the last 14 years.”
Hurley recently hired Trojak to sort out the books after it discovered the town financial records since last summer were incomplete. Former town supervisor Melinda McKnight blamed the town’s outside accounting firm for the gaps in reporting. She said her administration was working hard to bring bookkeeping in-house at a significant taxpayer savings
McKnight said alternative reports were run to get similar information.
