New Paltz Town Council members voted to hire Kingston resident Kris Klitzner to replace the retired Laura Petit as recycling coordinator. Klitzner is presently the manager of the transfer station in Rochester and Supervisor Neil Bettez confirmed after the March 4 meeting that this experience weighed heavily in Klitzmer’s favor. “It is a tough position to fill because we need someone who has the experience with all the official forms . . . but also a willingness to be an educator and innovator when it comes to moving the program forward towards our goal of becoming a zero-waste community.” Klitzmer edged out two other candidates for the position, which pays $41,600 a year.
