Tax collections in the Village of Saugerties are coming in faster than they did last year, Saugerties village treasurer Paula Kerbert said last week. “Three of the tax installment customers have paid their taxes in full now,” she said, “so that’s a good thing. When all of the [deferred] taxpayers pay their accounts off we’ll only have $26,099 left to collect. We are way, way ahead of last year. Everybody who had tax installments has paid on time, and I’m very very happy with that.”
People whose taxes are in arrears have been sending payments from time to time; one payment from 2019 for about $1900, Kerbert said. Previous years’ unpaid taxes come to $67,690, of which $27,233 will be paid by the county from property auctioned for non-payment of taxes.
Kerbert acknowledged that villages are not part of the county’s payments for taxes in arrears, but the county does pay the village a percentage of collections taken in through auctioning of properties for unpaid taxes.
