The best of Woodstock: Family’s Thanksgiving Day dinner

The immigrant Chinese painter Hongnian Zhang captured the character of his adopted hometown’s annual community Thanksgiving in this epic painting of several years ago.

One of Woodstock’s finest traditions is to not leave anyone behind on Thanksgiving. The town, courtesy of Family of Woodstock and volunteers, some of whom have helped out for years, opens it arms to anyone and everyone to take part in a feast worthy of this special holiday.

Family’s 43rd Thanksgiving dinner opens its doors 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, November 28 at the Mescal Hornbeck Community Center, 56 Rock City Road. If you’ve never been to one, stop by, or better yet, cook a platter of sweet potatoes or a bowl of vegetables and bring it by. It will make your heart sing.

Happy Thanksgiving, to all our community and surrounding ones, too.
