Saugerties honors Marvel Comics illustrator and native son Joe Sinnott

Joe Sinnott

The town board unanimously voted at their Aug. 14 meeting to honor iconic Marvel Comics illustrator and Saugerties native Joe Sinnott, who is retiring after 69 years of work, with a day of recognition on Aug. 31.

“We appreciate the many, many years that Joe devoted to making childhood fantasies possible through his work with the very well-known Marvel Comic ‘Fantastic Four’ and ‘Spider-Man’ comics,” reads the body of the board’s resolution. “[Joe] design[ed] two U.S. Postal Service commemorative stamps … and record covers for the American singer Bing Crosby … it is a privilege to have Joe as a member of our Saugerties community (for 92 years to be exact).”

A commemorative exhibit, at which County Executive Pat Ryan will present Sinnott with the Pride of Ulster County award, will be held at the Kierstead House at 3:30 p.m.
