BSP in Kingston will present the legendary Jamaican band the Skatalites on Friday, April 5. In existence since the early 1960s, the Skatalites scored numerous hits under their own name and served as house band for many of the biggest names during the first heyday of ska and reggae. The band reformed in the early ’80s and has been roadworthy in some fashion ever since. Though several founding members have died, recent touring lineups have featured at least two direct links to the original lineup in vocalist Doreen Shaffer and alto saxophonist Lester “Ska” Sterling. Tickets cost $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the show.
