The Ulster County SPCA (UCSPCA) has partnered with the Bissell Foundation for Empty the Shelters, an adoption event at their animal shelter at 20 Wiedy Road, Kingston on Saturday, May 5 from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm. Through this partnership, the Bissell Foundation will sponsor all adoption fees for the day.
Gina Carbonari, executive director of the UCSPCA, said the Bissell Foundation supports many shelters across the country.
“When you adopt from the Ulster County SPCA, we provide a ‘turn-key pet.’ That means every animal adopted has been examined by a veterinarian, received a spay or neuter, all vaccinations, all parasite preventatives such as flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, a microchip, deworming, and any additional medical care that may immediately be required,” Carbonari said. “Add to that the daily sheltering, feeding, socialization and behavioral enrichment that we provide for the overall health and well-being of each individual animal, and the costs quickly add up. Adoption fees do not come close to covering everything that is provided. But we wouldn’t do it any other way.”
In addition to the adoption event, the shelter is also hosting its annual Garden Party and Flea Market fundraiser the same day.
The UCSPCA will have a variety of animals available for adoption at this event, including puppies, kittens, dogs, cats and rabbits. All adoptions are done same-day and will still require all normal adoption qualifications and requirements.
