Police step up enforcement of distracted driving laws this week

All this week, local police departments, sheriffs’ offices, and the State Police are conducting a distracted driving enforcement program.

Police are looking for drivers’ texting, talking on their cell phones, passing a stopped school bus, and other instances of distracted driving and issuing tickets.

Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said there will be no written warning tickets issued, “just tickets that cost money and put points on a license.”

This is a no-nonsense enforcement of the law, Sinagra said.
