Zephyr Teachout, the Democratic candidate for Chris Gibson’s soon-to-be-vacated seat representing New York’s 19th Congressional District, will have some high-profile support on hand when she addresses a rally in New Paltz this Friday morning: Vermont senator and former presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders.

The rally is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16 at Hasbrouck Park in New Paltz. Admission to the event is free and open to the public, first-come, first-served. However, the campaign says that an RSVP at is “strongly encouraged.”

A law school professor who lives in Clinton in Dutchess County, Teachout surprised many when she carried Ulster County running against incumbent Andrew Cuomo in the 2014 Democratic gubernatorial primary. Last June, Teachout defeated Will Yandik for the Democratic nomination for this November’s District 19 congressional race. She will be up against Republican
