Saugerties man dies in fall from roof

Donald E. Briggs, 27, of Saugerties died Sunday, June 17 after apparently falling from the roof of 265 Main Street in Saugerties, New York State Police in Kingston reported. “Ulster County 911 received a report of an unresponsive person in the parking lot of 265 Main Street,” at approximately 6:08 a.m., the police report states.

An investigation by the State Police, Saugerties Police Department and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department determined that Briggs had suffered fatal injuries resulting from the fall.

No signs of a struggle or apparent foul play were noted, and all information the police have obtained so far points to an accidental death. However, an autopsy is scheduled and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the New York State Police in Kingston at 338-1702.


A small display of flowers, photographs and memorabilia has begun to collect near the parking lot behind the building.

    This was a truly tragic accident. Mr. Briggs was a strong member of the community who was a very hard working industrious, and positive person. He was loved by everyone in town. He focused on goals and achieved them time and time again and should be an inspiration to us all. He will be dearly missed.
