The It’s Not Who I Am Epilepsy Fund will once again host ‘Sara’s Annual Walk for Epilepsy’ from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 9 at SUNY New Paltz. Proceeds from the walk will benefit the It’s Not Who I Am Epilepsy Fund, which supports Epilepsy Educational Services throughout the Hudson Valley. Volunteers are being sought to participate as walkers, runners and bikers to raise money and awareness for those whose lives have been touched by epilepsy in the Hudson Valley. Before and after the walk, participants are invited to visit with local epilepsy groups, participate in raffles, purchase a signed copy of Sara-Elizabeth’s Story Being Sara and much more.
Seven years ago, the now 17-year-old and a New Paltz High School student Sara-Elizabeth Clark, turned her focus outward and organized this annual event as a way to create awareness of the disorder.
Clark, now seizure-free, had her first seizure when she was 16 months old, and throughout her young life continued to experience tonic clonic and partial complex uncontrollable seizures.
“My previous epilepsy fundraising events have raised over $72,000, which went toward programming right here in the Hudson Valley,” she said. “I hope this year’s walk will be even more successful in helping others with seizure disorders and to demystify the ever present stigma that some people have regarding people with Epilepsy.”
