Duffers for Devin golf outing

Though not starting out well — raining, well actually pouring at 5:45 a.m. — by tee-off at 12:30 p.m. the sun was out, the skies were blue with fluffy clouds and temperatures that were very comfortable. The Oct. 2 Duffers Fore Devin Golf Outing was a huge success, thanks in part to the many sponsors, as well as the businesses/individuals who donated items to be raffled after the event’s dinner.

First, thanks to Apple Greens and staff (Jim Delmar, Larry Smith and others) who were very patient with me leading up to the day of the outing, as well as the day of the outing with all registered players. Second, kudos to The Restaurant at Apple Greens for keeping the food coming so there were no long waits. Third, thanks to the sponsors who purchased hole sponsorships, whom I list in no particular order: Betty, Ray, Maureen and Bob; Hair by David Martin; Craig Thomas Pest Control Inc.; Scarborough Fare; Wallkill View Farms; Mark D. Orloff, PC; TH Remodeling and Renovations (three holes); Mainetti, Mainetti and O’Connor, PC; Rita Levine Real Estate; Michael Tamburri Auto Repairs and Sales; Trachte Law Office; Schulte Harlow Contracting; Tyrone Muse; ISCM — Brian Smith; Copeland Funeral Home; Lightning Express Delivery Service, Inc.; Bill Galati Pools, Inc.; Advance Excavating & Landscaping, Inc.; Justin Briggs; Ulster Insurance Services, Inc.; New Paltz Kennedy Fried Chicken; and Richard Ostrander. Thanks also to P&G’s Restaurant for sponsoring a hole, as well as serving as a billboard allowing the Duffers Fore Devin Banner to be displayed on the side of the building. Speaking of the banner, PDQ of New Paltz needs to be recognized for a “job” well done.

We are also grateful to the following businesses/individuals who donated items to the raffle held after the dinner, again in no particular order: Ray Schleinkofer, Leptondale Nursery, Casperkill Golf Club, Mohonk Golf Club, Storm King Golf Club, Radio Shack and Austin P., HVFCU, Scarborough Fare, Dedrick’s Pharmacy, Shapers Hair Salon, New Paltz Wine and Liquor, The Plaza Diner and Starbucks. Thanks also need to go to Rick Woods (for the set of golf clubs) that served as the “door prize.”

Thanks also need to be expressed to those who participated in the success of the outing/or attended the dinner. You know who you are (too many to list), as well as those who sent donations: Bob/Kay Geller, Don/Debbie Ditter, Ana Palumbo, Lois Cohn and family and Jim Brahm of SCA. A big thank you to Devin’s grandfather, Ray Schleinkofer, who not only donated his artwork but for also being 82 years young and playing 18 holes to honor his grandson. Thanks to Azeem Mallick, Madelyn and Brian Smith for being there whenever it was necessary and for any reason and to Amy Pikulski for your effort and success in obtaining items to be raffled. Thanks to Maureen and Grace for helping at registration and to my son Trevor who knows what a pitching wedge is all about (wish I did). Thanks to Mary, who did a great job and to Rich O’Corozine and the New Paltz Times for the great article on Devin. Most of all, to Devin who in the time he was with us left a legacy that people continue to recognize and graciously support when asked.

With many thanks.

Mary, Trevor and Geoff Meyer
